Retro-style RPG
Odicia is an RPG-maker game created by Oliver Hamlin and Cam Lee. It is a retro-style role-playing game set in a fantasy world filled with magic, monsters, and an evil empire. It follows a fire mage named Eyala Troy as she and her comrades set out on a quest to stop the Kingdom of Valhara’s corrupt crusade to cleanse the world of mysterious, mystical beings called Scions. The game is still in its pre-alpha demo phase, so expect it to be relatively short.
What is Odicia?
Odicia is created as an homage to the classic JRPGs, shonen manga, and other various cartoons and video games in the past. It offers retro-inspired visuals, music, and gameplay—immersing players in a nostalgic experience of playing classic RPGs on the old consoles. It comes with original visual assets, as well as original soundtracks and sound effects. There is no pre-made or default RTP in the game. The sprites, tilesets, and animations are all custom-made and, of course, retro-inspired.
There are nine permanent playable party members that you can recruit in the game. Each of them has a unique set of skills and magic that can help you in your quest. You can use a character’s rage and will to unleash their skills, magic, and fury to the enemies. You can also utilize their unique field abilities to solve puzzles and discover hidden secrets. However, these abilities are not always present as you play. You will need to choose which abilities each character will take into battles.
Odicia offers an engaging exploration game. To complete the quest, players will need to travel through a variety of dungeons. There will be no random encounters while you are exploring dungeons. You will have to engage enemies through direct combat or ambush them by approaching from behind.
Blast from the past
Odicia provides a nostalgic experience to fans of classic RPGs. The game has an interesting story presented in a cool modernized way. It has fun yet balanced gameplay, and the eventing is very clean. The boss fight is a little hard, but all in all, it is a fun game that will give you a little trip down memory lane.
